We do love a cuppa on our walks and hikes

It has become somewhat of a tradition for us. No matter where we go or when we get there, we will always brew a cup of tea and let the world go along it’s merry way without us for a few minutes.

Theres always time for tea, even at the summit of Pen Y Fan

So this new 2 Person Backpacker Set from Yellowstone was definitely going into our backpacks for the next few weeks.

The first thing I liked about the set was the size of the cups. Whilst not as big as my usual cup, at 300ml they are still perfect for a cup of whatever you fancy.

Similarly the bowls are a nice size and will hold around 400ml of cereal, soup or other campfire eatables.

Durable enough for adventures

Designed for backpacking, the set is made from lightweight aluminium with a hard anodised finish that is certainly durable enough for most adventures. And with the cup weighing in at a mere 100g and the bowl only slightly heavier at 120g, they should satisfy all but the dedicated ultralight backpacker.

Too hot to handle

Both the cup and bowl feature silicone liners that act as an insulator to keep the exterior metal cool when used with hot liquids. Unfortunately we found that when using the cups for tea or coffee they were initially too hot to hold. Although after a minute or so they did cool significantly enough to no longer be uncomfortable.

There are little silicone tabs at the top of the cups, though whether these are actually designed as finger holds I’m not sure. Holding the cup like that was cumbersome, so my guess is they’re simply an aesthetic feature rather than a practical one.

Cleaning was easy as the silicone liners simply pull out and can be washed separately. Although I’m not sure this really makes the cleaning any easier?

Our Verdict

We took the set with us for a few weeks on several day hikes and an overnight camp and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by how well the set performed out in the wild.

What speaks volumes is how readily I’d repack them into my backpack ready for our next trip.

When you consider a typical hiking mug can cost upwards of £10, this set represents excellent value for money at around £12 – £14 on the net.

So, if you’re looking for a lightweight backpacking set for two of you, then the Yellowstone Aluminium 2 Person Backpacker Set is definitely worth considering.
